Imagine all the warriors, living for today....
Welcome to the largest and most organized
death-by-knitting
and
death-by-crocheting
tournament in the world.
Join knitters and crocheters from all over the world as they come together on August 8, 2008, for a few shining weeks, to forget all of the things that make us different and remember all of the things that make us the same as we try to kill each other with two pointy sticks, a hook and some string.
Sign-up, and you will receive a top-secret file containing your target's information. To "kill" your target, you must follow the pattern to make a weapon for your event, and mail it to your target. Your target is "dead" when they receive your weapon. Your target then sends their incomplete weapon to you, along with their target's information, and you complete their weapon to kill their target. At the same time you are trying to kill your target, your assassin is trying to kill you. Join us and find out how exciting a trip to the mailbox can be as you open it each day to find out if you have killed, or whether you have been killed.
Sign-ups start June 1, 2008.
Deadline to sign-up is July 31, 2008.
Gauge and sample patterns are available here.
Materials list is available here.
12 Summer Smackdown Events:
The Olympics would never schedule every event to start on the same day at the same time (even though that would be wild to watch). The start of Smackdown is also staggered due to multiple events. The start dates and times are:

Assassins "kill" their targets by smacking them with "Toast". Toast can be easily mailed and can be connected together to make a scarf or blanket after the Food Fight is over.
New Twists Added for Summer Yarn Smackdown:
Leaderboard to rank warriors. Each kill is worth 2 points before resurrection. After resurrection, each kill is worth 1 point.
Resurrection is possible. Once you are killed, you can choose to be resurrected and compete again. Resurrected warriors enter the Resurrection Bracket and knit against each other in head-to-head competition for points.
Registration includes providing answers to 5 questions. The answers to those questions are used to verify WIP so knitting in anticipation of future kills is not possible.
The Diagram of Death lets you easily follow who has been killed.
What are the rules? - Take a look here
Every event uses basic lace knitting stitches, such as yo, ssk, and k2tog.
